Roper to leave FSC

Jun 09, 2010

DEPUTY executive director of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) George Roper will be leaving the regulatory body by the end of August, a source close to the FSC has disclosed.

Roper, who has been with the FSC since its inception August 2001, will take up the position as VP of Compliance with Scotiabank Group Limited when he vacates the position at the FSC, the source said.

Roper acted as Executive Director between January 1, 2008 and January 4, 2009.

Prior to being appointed to the position, Roper served as senior director of securities at the FSC for three and a half years. He was also the FSC's first senior director of examinations and investigations. Before being employed to the FSC, Roper was the director of inspections and examinations at the Securities Commission, an organisation which preceded the FSC.

Roper has been intimately involved in the development of the regulatory infrastructure of the FSC and its risk-based standards.

The FSC did not respond to queries regarding Roper's successor up to press time.
