CCN board reorganised

May 27, 2009

The board of directors of media group Caribbean Communications Network Ltd (CCN) has been reconstituted with businessman Joseph Esau as chairman and former ambassador Reginald Dumas joining as a non-executive director.

CCN and the Nation Corporation in Barbados merged to form One Caribbean Media Ltd (OCM). CCN is the parent company of the Trinidad Express Newspapers Ltd and CCN TV6.

The board will be chaired by Esau and will include two other OCM directors, Tracey Bazie and Harold Hoyte, CCN executives Dawn Thomas and Shida Bolai, and OCM group executive Sunity Maharaj, OCM chairman Sir Fred Gollop announced yesterday.

The nine-member board will be completed by three independent non-executive directors in Kristine Gibbon-Thompson, chief executive of Carisal Unlimited, former ambassador and head of the Public Service Reginald Dumas and attorney-at-law Faarees Hosein.

Sir Fred said the formation of the reconstituted CCN board was one of the final elements needed to complete the restructuring consequent on the merger of the Nation Corporation in Barbados and CCN, which formed OCM in 2006, and will permit more effective governance of the Trinidad and Tobago-based businesses of the OCM Group.

Sir Fred indicated that OCM was particularly delighted to have the services of Dumas, who is an occasional columnist in the Express, Gibbon-Thompson, a graduate of the Harvard Business School with more than ten years' senior corporate experience in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Hosein, the long-standing attorney for the CCN companies, with considerable expertise in media and corporate law.
