SVL makes more changes to Super Lotto

SUPREME Ventures Limited (SVL) has again improved the odds of winning the Super Lotto as it attempts to lure gamblers to the big-ticket, multi-jurisdictional regional game which has underperformed.

SVL has announced that it has reduced the amount of numbers -- from 35 to 10 -- from which a player needs to select the super ball, which along with the selection of five other numbers from one to 35 is required to clinch the jackpot.

The multi-jurisdictional Super Lotto game has underperformed.

"Now Super Lotto is easier to play and win," reads a new SVL advertisement, stating that the new rules have been effective since December 11.

The initiative is just the latest by SVL to revamp the Super Lotto, which the firm states has performed below expectations. The underperformance is largely blamed on the difficulty to win the game -- which had odds to win the jackpot of one in 11 million when it was launched in August 2009 and just had its first and only jackpot winner two months ago. SVL in March changed the game to include a lower price option on tickets and more opportunities to win the lower-tier prizes, and SVL CEO Brian George disclosed to the Business Observer last month that more changes were in the pipeline.

"We looked back at the game and we have done one significant thing in reducing the prices so that you can now bet at $150 or $250," he said. "The next step, really, is what can we do to make sure it doesn't take a year again for somebody to win, and the only way you can do that is by reducing the odds... That's on the table and its being reviewed."

Meanwhile, SVL also introduced a new lottery game — Pick 2 — on Monday. According to SVL on its website, players simply choose two numbers: One each from two different sets of 36 numbers, that is, one of 36 plus one of 36. Players will have the chance to win up to $8,000 from a $20 bet.
