New Central Bank Governor gets to work today

Nov 02, 2009

DR. DELISLE Worrell, the new Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, will assume duties from this morning.

Dr. Worrell, a highly respected Barbados and Caribbean Economist, will be welcomed to the bank by the more than 200 staff members. He was named to the post some months ago by Prime Minister David Thompson.

Dr. Worrell replaces Dr. Marion Williams, who served in that position for ten of the 36 years she worked at the Bank. Dr. Worrell brings a wealth of experience to the job having previously served as Director of Research and Statistics, and Deputy Governor of the financial institution.

He had served as head of the Caribbean Centre for Money and Finance. Prior to that he worked in Washington at the International Monetary Fund.

He will be part of what is a new look at the top of the institution. His two Deputies will be Cleviston Haynes and Dr. Daniel Boamah. They replaced Victor Springer and Carlos Holder. (JB)
