Sagicor Cayman strikes deal with Guardian

Sagicor Jamaica said Tuesday that its Cayman subsidiary has acquired Guardian Life's individual life insurance business within that market.

Sagicor Jamaica's chief financial officer Ivan Carter said it was a "small" purchase that adds approximately 200 policies to Sagicor General Insurance Cayman Limited's portfolio, but would not divulge the acquisition price.

The deal was effected February 2 through Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands Limited which is run by country manager Claudette Saint Reid, who says the business would be integrated into the existing operations.

Sagicor Jamaica did $1.5 billion of new sales or annualised premium income in its individual life business segment last year, which the company is trumpeting as a new record.
