Le Hunte takes over at Ghana bank

May 06, 2015

Republic Bank has announced that HFC Bank (Ghana) Ltd has appointed Robert Le Hunte as its new managing director, effective July 1.

Le Hunte replaced Asare Akuffo as acting managing director from April 24, when Akuffo started pre-retirement leave.

Prior to this appointment, Le Hunte was executive director, Risk Management, at HFC Bank.

Le Hunte’s experience in the financial services sector spans more than 25 years, Republic said in a statement last week.

“He has been a member of the Republic Bank team since 1992, during which time he gained a wealth of experience in the areas of Operations, Credit, Treasury and Trade Finance. He has served in key executive positions, as general manager—Planning and Financial Control, general manager—Corporate and Investment Banking, and chief executive officer and managing director—Republic Bank (Barbados) Ltd.”

Le Hunte is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago and holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Manchester, as well as a Master of Science in Accounting from The University of the West Indies, St Augustine.

He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and has completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

In his new position, Le Hunte will have direct responsibility for the running of HFC Bank. Under his direction, the HFC Bank will deepen its concentration on the mortgage market, toward the improvement of home ownership, and will make available to customers the Bank’s suite of modern electronic banking products, Republic said.
