T&T very important to future growth of Sagicor

Jul 15, 2014

DAVID Alleyne, President and CEO of Sagicor General Insurance said Trinidad and Tobago is very important to the future growth and development of the company. The company has been operating a branch in Trinidad and Tobago for the past ten years.

“Trinidad and Tobago is fundamentally important to the future growth and success of our Company. The discipline, dedication, professionalism and hard work of our Branch has resulted in approximately 58 per cent of our Company’s Gross Written Premium at Dec. 2013 being generated in the marketplace here.”

“That’s at the top end of the income statement,” Alleyne added. “At the bottom, the profitability of the portfolio over the years has contributed significantly to the strengthening of our Balance Sheet. Long may that continue.”
He was addressing staff, agents and several clients during SGI TT’s tenth anniversary celebratory dinner at Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain.

“I would like to recognise the foresight of my Sagicor Life Insurance executive colleagues who envisioned where we could go, and the contribution to the Group’s success that SGI Trinidad could and would make. Their support has been invaluable.”

Alleyne also thanked the company’s agents, life advisers and supporting brokers for their “constant support” since 2004.

Noting that Sagicor has “a long way to go as we work together to strengthen our company,” Alleyne told staff he was “really heartened by our plans and look forward with confidence to the tasks we have set ourselves for the future.”

He identified three areas which require critical focus if the company is to “ensure sustainable competitive advantage.”

Firstly, enhance, embrace and hold themselves accountable for the provision of the level of customer service as stated in Sagicor’s motto, “which defines our brand and which meets the demands of all our stakeholders. Nothing less is acceptable.”

Alleyne said secondly, “We must continue to research, develop and deliver new products and services to fulfill our partners and clients needs. This work is ongoing.”

Third was the need for staff to avail themselves of the necessary technological tools to allow them to “properly function in a new, instant and digital world, where immediate communication and the analysis of data is essential to keep us ahead of the game. We are making steady progress in this regard,” Alleyne stated.
