ARAWAK CEMENT COMPANY is playing hard now that it has stiff competition.
As of this week, the St Lucy-based, Trinidadian-owned company dropped the price of its cement to match that of Hard Rock Cement, which was retailing at $21.05 – $7 less than Arawak’s.
A check with hardware stores across the island revealed that Arawak dropped its price twice since Hard Rock Cement began importation of its blended hydraulic cement only last Monday.
A bag of cement from Arawak was being sold for just over $28. It dropped to $26.48 last week and further reduced to $21.05, the same price as Hard Rock.
When contacted yesterday, chairman and chief executive of Hard Rock Cement, Mark Maloney, called Arawak’s price drop amazing. (MB)
