TSTT increases cost of landline calls

Oct 07, 2014

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) has increased the cost of calls on landlines.

In response to a query by the Express last week, the company said: “As many would know, landline rating has always been subject to a very complex structure depending on location of calling party, location of called party and time of day. This change is the first step made towards providing a simple landline tariff which customers can easily understand, and  involves reducing the current rate structure from nine ranges to just five.

“This is not a rate increase but a rate simplification, where the only exception will be for calls within a customer’s serving exchange. Over the past 25 years, these calls were previously rated at 23 cents for an unlimited talk time, which is no longer sustainable due to overall rising costs. This  was marginally increased to 25 cents for call durations of five minutes- which is still extremely cheap value for landline customers.”

TSTT said it advised the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago of its intent to simplify the rating structure for local calls made between landline customers. Separate notifications were posted on the company’s website and in the public offices for customers to be fully aware of the details.
