CIBC bids farewell to managing director

Dec 11, 2014

CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank said farewell to Duane Hinkson, managing director of its T&T business, during an employee function at the Queens’ Park Cricket Club, Port-of-Spain.

“We thank Duane for his years of service to CIBC FirstCaribbean. He has been an invaluable member of the senior executive team and his input and leadership have contributed to the bank’s drive for excellence at all levels. We wish him every success in the future,” said Anthony Seeraj, director, Corporate Investment Banking, who will act as managing director.

Hinkson, who joined CIBC First-Caribbean in 2010 as director, Advisory Services and Sovereign Specialist, brought to the bank more than 13 years of corporate, investment and merchant banking experience gained from senior roles at major financial institutions.

On January 1, 2013, he was appointed managing director, which included a seat on the board of directors for First-Caribbean International Bank (T&T) Limited as well as on the senior executive team for the CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank Group.

During his tenure at the bank, Hinkson played a pivotal role in successfully relaunching the bank’s high net worth retail banking offer, Platinum Banking. He was also instrumental in introducing the offshore US dollar Axiom Portfolios, a wealth management product designed to provide an avenue for geographic diversification of risk and the opportunity to earn foreign currency returns.

He also spearheaded the implementation of the T&T Automated Clearing House (ACH) capability, which now allows CIBC FirstCaribbean to fully bank its corporate and commercial clients by being able to offer a broader suite of transaction banking and payment services.

Additionally, he was responsible for securing domestic and foreign internal and regulatory approvals for the issuance of TT$480 million in medium term bonds that would position the bank for further asset growth.
