Sep 27, 2011

Shida Bolai has been appointed chief executive officer of Caribbean Communications Network (CCN) with effect from October 1, 2011.

The announcement was made yesterday by group chief executive officer of One Caribbean Media Ltd (OCM), Dawn Thomas.

Bolai, currently general manager of CCN TV6, has a career that spans over 30 years in the media industry, at both operational and executive levels across all media platforms, including press, television radio and the Internet. She possesses a proven track record of success and has played a pivotal role in the development and growth of CCN, Thomas said in a press release.

Under her stewardship, CCN TV6 has been able to maintain its market dominance for the last 14 years, Thomas added.

Other key positions Bolai has held in the CCN Group are general manager — Trinidad Express Newspapers, group sales manager — CCN and advertising manager — Trinidad Express Newspapers.

At present, she sits on the board of directors of CCN, Tobago News, Trinidad and Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association and Starcom Network of Barbados.

She currently holds the position of vice-president of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and also sits on the boards of the Little Carib Theatre and the Express Children's Fund.

Bolai has had extensive training in media management and was the recipient of a Fellowship sponsored by the Commonwealth Press Union which took her to places such as England, South Africa and Lesotho.

Bolai says she feels "humbled by this opportunity and looks forward to building local and regional media organisations and institutions, ensuring a free press and expanding opportunities in the Caribbean".

The CCN Group comprises the Express newspaper, CCN TV6 and Six Point Productions and is a member of the One Caribbean Media Group (OCM).
