Former Sando Mayor now heads Plipdeco

Former San Fernando mayor Ian Atherly has been appointed chairman of the Point Lisas Industrial Estate (Plipdeco). Atherly has succeeded former chairman Brigadier Carl Alfonso, who has taken up a senior security position at the Prime Minister’s Diplomatic Centre. Atherly reportedly received his instruments of appointment at his private office in San Fernando, yesterday.

He will now report to Transport Minister Devant Maharaj in whose portfolio all ports fall. Atherly, a former member of the People’s National Movement (PNM) switched allegiance just before the May 24, 2010 general election. He even appeared on the platform of the United National Congress (UNC). Recently, he was seen with Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal on a tour of unfinished projects in San Fernando undertaken by the Urban Development Company (Udecott).
