Jamaica Chamber of Commerce elects new president

Nov 18, 2016

Larry Watson, head of a confectionery business and a former rum executive, has been elected president of Jamaica Chamber of Commerce for a one-year term ending September 2017.

Watson has been a director of the chamber since 2013. He succeeds Warren McDonald, who headed the trade association for two terms.

Since 2011, Watson has run Confectionery & Snacks (Jamaica) Limited as general manager. Before that, he was a management consultant between 2006 and 2011. He worked with and J. Wray & Nephew Limited as managing director of its Global Marketing Division, and CEO of Estate Distribution, a subsidiary of Tia Maria International in London, the Jamaica Chamber said in statement.

Watson's executive includes vice-presidents Cathrine Kennedy, Lloyd Distant Jr, Michael McMorris and Keith Collister, and treasurer Wilbert Spence - all of whom were elected at the chamber's annual general meeting on Tuesday and will serve a near one-year term.

Michael G. Ammar, Ingrid Christian-Baker and Melanie Subratie will serve as directors for three years, while Donovan White and Peter Graham will serve a near one-year term also as directors.

In its description of Watson's background, the Jamaica Chamber said he has held board positions with J. Wray & Nephew Limited, Rum Company Jamaica Limited, and Peter Meilzynski Agencies Limited, among others.

The current executive will effectively serve for 10 months to the next annual meeting of the chamber set for mid-September in 2017. The Jamaica Chamber says its meeting this year was postponed to November 15 but would revert to its regular schedule next year.
