RBTT powers Guatemala

Apr 26, 2007

The loan proceeds are being used for the construction of a 94-megawatt hydroelectric plant located in the municipality of Chajul in Guatemala.

The March 30 deal is the fourth to be executed by RBTT Merchant Bank to facilitate the financing of hydroelectric power projects in Central America.

As lead arranger in the Hidroxacbal transaction, RBTT Merchant Bank structured a facility that encouraged participation from both multilateral and private-sector financial institutions from within Central America as well as extra-regionally.

The Merchant Bank invited the Central American Bank for Economic Integration to act as a co-arranger on the facility, while other key participants included the Netherlands Development Finance Company and several local Guatemalan banking entities.

“This transaction represents a further milestone in RBTT Merchant Bank’s quest to be the investment bank of first choice to Caribbean and Central American issuers,” said Lyndon Guiseppi, managing director of RBTT Merchant Bank.

“Even more importantly, the investment banking team delivered flawlessly on this extremely complex transaction in which several international banks competed for this prized mandate.”

Hidroxacbal is owned by Grupo Terra, a Honduran investment group with more than 13 years of experience in the design, development, construction and operation of power plants throughout Central America.
