TCL achieves ISO environment certification

Mar 15, 2007

Trinidad Cement Limited has been granted the prestigious ISO 14001:2004 Certification for its company-wide Environmental Management System.

In a statement, the company said the certification applied to all its major operations in the production and packaging of cement at its plant facilities at Mayo and Claxton Bay.

TCL’s general manager Arun Goyal said: “ISO 14001:2004 certification underscores TCL’s position as an industry leader in environmental management and demonstrates once again that we take our environmental protection responsibilities very seriously.”

He said the certification, awarded by the T&T Bureau of Standards (TTBS), acknowledged that TCL had implemented an effective environmental management system that enabled the company to manage its environmental impacts, comply with applicable legal requirements, work with relevant stakeholders for environmental enhancement and continually improve its environmental performance.

Presenting the registration certificate to TCL, Prem Nandlal, executive director of TTBS, stated that “Registration to ISO 14001: 2004—Environmental Management System Standard is a valuable tool for survival in a globalised world market.”

He applauded TCL’s commitment to the process and encouraged the company to continue to strive for excellence to ensure substantial benefits for the organisation and economy. TCL’s subsidiaries in Barbados and Jamaica, Arawak Cement Co Ltd and Caribbean Cement Co Ltd respectively, have also achieved ISO 14001 certification.
