Scotiabank Upsizes Sharp's Regional Portfolio

May 18, 2016

Jacqueline Sharp, the country head of Scotia Group Jamaica and regional head for Scotiabank Caribbean North and Central, will now oversee six other country markets, in addition to the Jamaican operations.

Previously, Sharp's regional portfolio spanned Haiti and Belize. Now she will also be in charge of the operations in The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

"I am enthusiastic about this opportunity and look forward to working with the teams in those countries," Sharp said in a company statement issued on Tuesday. "I look forward to leading these teams as we continue to focus on our clients, while sharing our own financial expertise," she said.

Sharp was named president and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica in September 2013, becoming the first woman to hold the job since the bank's establishment in 1889. She landed the top job after a decade and a half of senior roles, and various promotions up the ranks, having joined Scotiabank in 1997.

Her expanded regional portfolio follows the departure of Bruce Bowen as head of Scotiabank Canada's Caribbean portfolio, a job to which he was appointed after running Scotia's operations in Jamaica. Sharp succeeded Bowen as president of the Jamaican bank.

Scotiabank has operations in 20 countries in the Caribbean.
